Late News on Genocide Charges

Reported on September 7, 2001 :

KOSOVO: Judges of the Supreme Court of Kosovo (two out of three of whom are from outside Kosovo) ruled that a Serbian defendant charged with genocide was not guilty because the Serbian forces intended only to forcibly expel the Kosovars and not to exterminate a whole people (BBC).

NAMIBIA : "The Herero tribe, which was nearly wiped out during German colonial rule in the early 20th century, has filed a class-action suit in the United States against three German companies that the Hereros say were party to 'enslavement and genocidal destruction of the Herero tribe.'"  The suit, filed by the Herero Peoples's Reparation Corporation, seeks two billion US dollars (New York Times, September 7, 2001 , A8).
