Abstract The Armenian Genocide continues to be the context for much of Armenian diaspora literature, the central themes being, loss, exile, dislocation, and alienation, for example. Consequently, Armenian diaspora artists still need to position themselves in relation to the Genocide. Survivors who have left eyewitness testimony have been compelled to tell their stories. However, narrative is essential in the recovery and exploration of memory, not only for genocide survivors, but also for those Armenian diaspora artists whose experience of the Genocide is mediated through memoirs, films, novels, art, photographs and oral testimony.
